Try Growing Your Own Salad This Year!

Can someone help me understand exactly what is meant by "SIMPLY STAND THE PALLET UPRIGHT" in the comment posted: If you don’t have a lot of room, try growing salad greens in a pallet garden (pictured above). Wrap landscape fabric around the back and sides of a wooden pallet, then fill the openings with soil and plant your seeds or starter plants. When the plants have taken root and begun to grow, simply stand the pallet upright in a sunny location.
In other words, lay the pallet down on the ground and plant your seeds in the top side of it. Then, once the plants have rooted fairly well, stand up the pallet on one of its ends, facing the planted side towards the sun (as in the picture above). This “vertical gardening” is one technique that can help save space in the garden!
Is there some kind of fabric to keep the salad greens off of the soil so that when they are harvested, they are not dirty from the soil?
Landscaping fabric is an option, but in any case, the greens should be washed before being eaten to remove dirt and hidden pests.
