Makes 2 pints.

Spiced Nuts

1 egg white
1 tablespoon cold water
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon each cinnamon, cloves, allspice, nutmeg, and mace
2 cups walnut halves (or other nut of preference)
2 cups pecan halves (or other nut of preference)

Preheat oven to 250 degrees F. Beat the egg white with the cold water. Sift the sugar and spices into the egg mixture, then toss nuts in this. Spread the coated nuts onto oiled cookie sheets and bake for at least 1 hour. Cool, then turn onto waxed paper, spreading them out to dry separately. Store in glass jars.

Absolutely killer. Of all we made for Thanksgiving, this was hands down the fave. Easy to put together. Make a few days before serving to allow the coating to dry out and set. Really good.

Just made these using ingredients listed except for the mace and I reduced the sugar to 1/2 cup, added 1/4 tsp of red pepper and extra cup of almonds. The taste is great, however the consistency was more like sticky candy brittle. I believe one egg white and one tablespoon of water would have been plenty of liquid.

Thanks for the tip, Maryjane. We'll try it out.
