Living in Germany 16 years my favorite months were always September-October. No matter what the day's weather the evening skies cleared-up and were sunny and cool. And when one drove in the countryside, you would pass truckloads of turnips. My favorite events to enjoy were the 3-day Zwiebelmarkt (onion festival) in Weimar, GE and the Oktoberfest in Munich or in any small town...Prost to Autumn!
I live in the Arizona desert. We are out half an hour before sunrise to exercise the dog and the last few mornings have been beautiful- not only do we get to sleep a little later, but the morning temperatures have been in the 70’s instead of the 90’s. Fall is my favorite season - we don’t get much fall color, but the cooler temps are very welcome and so are fall rains.
Growing up and living in southeast Missouri most of my life we experience all kinds of weather. Autumn has always been my favorite time of year. From cooler days to the fall harvest. We begin to notice the cooler mornings and nights here with the days still being quite warm. The deer begin to lose their spots from birth and the rut will soon be in full swing. The acorns are maturing and the first signs of fall color are now being seen in some of the leaves with the best colors coming out in October and November. I drive a rural mail route and Ive noticed more squirrels than normal running around on the ground so autumn is soon to be in full swing! I cant wait for the bonfires, smores, and hoodie weather.
Fall has always been my favorite season after the hot Oklahoma summer. Crisp, cool nights and warm afternoons. Sweaters, hoodies, casseroles, soups, warm breads fresh from the oven. The gorgeous colors of fall with fallen leaves on the lawn. Hummingbirds as well as other summer birds are gone, and now I am waiting for the winter birds to show up.
From western Colorado- Have you ever noticed that outdoor sounds change in the fall? As the tree leaves start losing moisture and preparing to die, they no longer muffle the sound of a busy road three blocks from here. Train whistles from tracks three or four miles away can be heard again. This is the first thing I notice, before the leaves turn color, before my little cat stops shedding, even before the hummingbirds leave.
I have always loved Autumn best. I think perhaps having a late September birthday and loving "back to school" were two reasons I loved fall so much in my younger years. While I still look forward to each year's birthday (albeit with less enthusiasm about the ever increasing number) and to back to school (I work at a major university in Ohio, so I still get to see "back to school" in action), I think for me what really sets the tone for the best season are the clear blue skies and lower humidity. The air seems to crackle in its crispness. The skies are almost TOO blue to look at. And that blue sky makes the changing colors of the leaves and flowers even more beautiful. Having moved about 170 miles south 18 months ago, this will be my second Autumn in southeast Ohio. The weather is so different here! The pressing humidity that defines summers here has just left these past couple days. I am LOVING that!
The sky changes color in the Ozarks when fall is upon us, and it did that nearly a month ago. Deep blue, and looking as if you could see forever. All the wildlife on my property, which is a sanctuary immediately began putting on heavier coats and snarfing up anything they could see to fatten up. It looks to be a long, cold winter here.
In Virginia the very first signs of autumn are the wild yellow Daisies that fill the ditches and there are fewer high humidity days.
Coffee brewing early in the morning. Me own my deck watching the squirrels playing, wrestling the leaves as they run across the yard. The clean smell of the air as the deep blue sky floats above it. Mums, Asters & Pansies showing their colors. The trees dressed in their Fall attire. Closeness of family & holidays approaching. Walking through the woods with the crunching of my footsteps keeping me company. Turning another year older...Sept.25...Fall Child
Forgot to mention I'm from a small town in Southeast Tennessee
