These Sweet Potato Oven Fries with Spicy Crema won first prize in our 2020 Garden Guide Sweet Potatoes Recipe Contest. The combination of sweet and spicy coating on the fries and tangy, cool dipping sauce had us going back for more—and then we made the recipe again! We could not get enough and we know you will understand once you try them.

1-1/2 pounds sweet potatoes, preferably similar in size
3 tablespoons olive oil
1/4 cup shredded Parmesan cheese
1/4 cup panko bread crumbs
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1-1/2 teaspoons salt
3/4 teaspoon ground cumin
3/4 teaspoon chili powder
1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper, or to taste

Preheat oven to 425°F. Get out a large baking sheet.
Peel and cut sweet potatoes in half lengthwise, then cut into equal-size strips or wedges about 1/2-inch thick.
Place sweet potatoes in a single layer on baking sheet. Drizzle with oil and toss to coat.
In a bowl, combine Parmesan, bread crumbs, brown sugar, salt, cumin, chili powder, and cayenne.
Sprinkle bread crumb mixture over the fries and toss to coat. Arrange in a single layer on baking sheet.
Bake on center oven rack for 30 minutes, or until tender and well browned, turning once or twice during cooking.

1 cup sour cream
1 teaspoon minced jalapeño pepper, or to taste
1/2 teaspoon fresh lime juice
1/4 teaspoon salt

In a bowl, combine sour cream, jalapeño, lime juice, and salt.
Chill until ready to serve with fries.
