Preparation Method

These pumpkin biscuits bring a touch of sweetness and warm pumpkin pie spice to the table. Made with yeast and given time to rise, they’re a cozy addition to a fall supper or holiday meal. Serve warm with butter—and if you have squash on hand, you can use it in place of the pumpkin.

Ingredients
1/2 cup pureed pumpkin
1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons pumpkin pie spice
4 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup scalded milk
1 packet yeast dissolved in 1/4 cup lukewarm water
2-1/2 cups flour

Instructions

  1. Add the pumpkin, sugar, salt, pumpkin pie spice, and butter to the milk.
  2. Cool to lukewarm and add the dissolved yeast, then the flour; cover and put in a warm place to let double in bulk, about 2 hours.
  3. Shape into biscuits, place side by side in a greased pan, let rise again, and bake in a 375 degrees F oven for 12 to 15 minutes. This recipe may also be made using squash.
