Your Zodiac-Inspired Thanksgiving Side Dish

Aries: Butternut Squash Soup

These go-getters are up for anything. They can be found at the front of every trend, well before the rest of the world catches on.

Butternut squash soup honors their need to push traditional holiday boundaries and be the first course, of course. Add a dash of cayenne if you’d like a little fiery heat.

Taurus: Mashed Potatoes

Reliable to the core, Taurus can be counted on in every situation. Although they adore sweets, what they really love is comfort food.

Put them in charge of mashed potatoes, and you can count on them to show up with the creamiest, dreamiest spuds you’ve ever tasted. Next to Cancer, no one knows cozy cooking better.

Try this recipe: Mashed Potatoes with Chives

Gemini: Cheese Ball and Spiced Nuts

Gemini loves variety. These curious folks want options. This is one of the reasons why Geminis always seem to enjoy dim sum so much—there are so many choices!

Let Geminis handle the appetizers. A cheese ball and spiced nuts give them more than one (delicious) responsibility.

Cancer: Thanksgiving Pie

Yes, pie is technically dessert, but we’re making an exception for Cancer. My Aunt Delia was a Cancer, and no one did desserts like her. You could tell she poured so much love into her scrumptious confections.

That’s no surprise since home, family, and the need to feed others is Cancer’s domain. Put these sweet souls on pie duty and everyone wins.

Leo: Roasted Brussels Sprouts

Leos are warm and generous. They never do anything halfway. Instead, they go big.

Assign roasted Brussels sprouts to these regal Lions. Encourage them to go wild with bacon and other add-ins. This will satisfy their creativity—and everyone’s appetite.

Virgo: Kale Salad

Did you know health is associated with Virgo? Also: routines, work, and details. Entrust Virgos with a healthy side dish like kale salad, and they’ll deliver with something organic and nutritious.

Bonus: Virgos are perfectionists, so you can trust them to get it right. (Psst…put Virgo on turkey carving duties. They’re precise.)

Try this recipe: Kale Salad with Cranberries, Feta, and Walnuts

Libra: Green Bean Casserole

Libra loves beauty. That means gorgeous surroundings, tailored clothing, and lush gardens. Balance is also important to them.

The iconic green bean casserole is the perfect blend of creamy, salty, and crunchy. In a Libra’s hands, you can be sure it will look as good as it tastes. (Let Libras set the table. Their taste is always on point.)

Scorpio: Dinner Rolls

Deep, mysterious, intense—those words are often used to describe Scorpio. Also, hardheaded and stubborn. But did you know that underneath that tough exterior is a soft inside? Kind of like a nice crusty dinner roll!

Yep, Scorpios should definitely handle hot dinner rolls. Kneading the dough will be therapeutic, too! Perfect for working out their moods.

Sagittarius: Curried Butternut Squash

Sagittarius loves to roam. Many are world travelers. They like to broaden their horizons through distant journeys—or books, when they can’t hit the road. So it only makes sense that they make something that feels outside the usual fare.

Curried butternut squash with rice gives them the opportunity to share something interesting—and talk about the origins of the spices. (Be prepared for tales about their latest adventures, too.)

Capricorn: Cranberry Sauce

Capricorns prefer sticking to a plan. In fact, they make excellent hosts because everything will be timed down to the wire.

Traditions matter to them, so cranberry sauce is right up their alley. While they may wow everyone with a homemade version, no one will be mad about the canned sauce. After all, for some of us, that is a tradition.

Cornbread dressing (or stuffing) is another must for Thanksgiving. Give Caps this bonus assignment, too. They won’t mind. They’ll love the challenge!

Aquarius: Succotash

No one bucks conformity more than Aquarius. They love to break rules, bend time, and go their own way. Yet, they always think of everyone else first.

Count on them to bring the “tofurkey” for the vegans in the crowd. They’ll also be more than happy to bring succotash, a colorful side that stands out amongst the usual fare.

Try this recipe: Traditional Succotash

Pisces: Sweet Potato Casserole

Good-natured Pisces loves to help. They’re known for being compassionate, kindhearted, and ultra-sensitive.

Let these softies put together a sweet potato casserole. No doubt it will be as sweet as they are.

Thankful for Thanksgiving Sides

Many of us grew up enjoying the Thanksgiving trappings and trimmings every year. In fact, I’d bet plenty of folks will say they anticipated the side dishes more than the actual turkey!

I still remember the creamy whipped potatoes and soft, pillowy stuffing with fondness. Every year, I try to recreate Thanksgiving the way Mom did, but it’s always more fun when other family members and friends contribute.

Now I just need to figure out how to get every zodiac sign at the dinner table, and I’ll be set!
