Looking for a traditional chicken salad recipe? Sometimes the classic recipe is best, especially in a sandwich. Our recipe has just four ingredients: chicken, mayonnaise, lemon juice, and crunchy celery.

This basic chicken salad recipe can be adapted to your style, too. We like to add one teaspoon dijon mustard for a little more kick.

  • Want more crunch? Add extra celery. We also like to chop up one green onion for crunch and flavor.
  • Other popular add-ins include: nuts (almonds, pecans), fruit (grapes, dried cranberries), eggs, and dill.

For the chicken, we advise either poaching or baking chicken breasts or thighs.

This recipe is so simply and delicious! You’ll never go back to store-bought.

Classic Chicken Salad

Ingredients
2 cups cooked chicken, chopped
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/2 stalk celery, chopped finely
1 tablespoon lemon juice
pepper and salt to taste
Instructions

In a small bowl, mix all of the ingredients together. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

Optional: Refrigerate for an hour if possible.

Serve as a sandwich or over greens. Or, enjoy with crackers as a snack!

Note: Do not leave mayo dishes at room temperature over two hours. Refrigerated up to 4 days, wrapped tightly with plastic wrap.
