Cooking With Herbs

Even if you simply want to spice up a typical dish like omelets or a salad, try these recipes for an herbal twist. And if you don’t have all the herbs the recipes call for, don’t worry—try a bit of experimenting! Once you get the hang of cooking with herbs, you’ll know which herbs work perfectly together (and which you might want to put aside for next time!).

  • When using delicate herbs such as cilantro, parsley, and chives, add them 1 to 2 minutes before the end of cooking or sprinkle on top when a dish is served.
  • Hardy herbs, including marjoram, thyme, and rosemary, can be added during cooking, without fear that they will lose flavor or become chewy.

Growing Herbs

Growing your own herbs is so easy and inexpensive. Who wants to buy those pricey little bundles at the market?

Many herbs such as mint and dill just take off! (In fact, grow mint in its own bed or container so that it doesn’t spread and become invasive.)
